Huh?

It’s all about WIKI, social networking, social media, blogs, podcasts, videos, and… Let’s break it down a bit.

Three Myths and Truths About Web Links

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

web-linkYou may have heard that linking to other sites from your website will help with SEO (search engine optimization).

Maybe you’ve been told that you have to get permission from a site owner before linking to his/her website.

It’s time you know the truth.

Myth 1: Linking to other sites from my site will help my SEO.

Truth: The benefit of “link swapping” is based on incoming, not outgoing links. If a huge site, like the ADA, links to your website, SEO is enhanced. If specialists, labs, and product manufacturers IN DENTISTRY link to your website, SEO is enhanced.

If you post your website address in comments on non-dental-related blogs just to get incoming links, you’re wasting time. Good incoming links should be relevant to your site’s topic, which means they should be from websites that deal with dentistry, oral health, dental education, etc. “Link swapping” means that you post someone’s site link on your site, and they do the same for you. This works well with labs, specialists, and referring dentists. Jsut give the webmaster a call or shoot him/her an email and request a link swap.
